The Fredberg is a unique area where many animal species occur. It is about a 4-hour drive south of Paramaribo. This area is rich in various species of flora and fauna. The most famous animals are the Spider monkeys, the Cock of the Rock and the Bushmaster. Of course, there are many more animals to see! This trip is all-inclusive, which means that transport, food and drinks, accommodation and a guide are included.
In the morning, you depart around 8 AM from the city and drive towards Fredberg, arriving at the base camp around noon. Here, you can relax, explore the surroundings, and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, you begin your hike to the top of the mountain, which takes approximately 2 to 3 hours. Along the way, the guide will share insights about the area. With some luck, you may spot beautiful wildlife!
Once at the top, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking sunset. From this viewpoint, you might see monkeys, macaws, and other birds flying by. At the top of the mountain, there is a hammock camp where you will spend the night.
Wake up at sunrise among howler monkeys, with a cup of tea or coffee in hand. After breakfast, you hike down towards the base camp, keeping an eye out for fascinating wildlife and exotic plants along the way! Around midday, you arrive back at the base camp and enjoy lunch.
In the afternoon, there is time to swim in the river, relax, and take in the natural surroundings. After dinner, you embark on an exciting night walk! At night, different animals become active, such as snakes, frogs, tarantulas, and other nocturnal creatures. During the walk, the guide will share interesting facts about these fascinating species. At the base camp, various lodges and a large dormitory with beds are available for accommodation.
For those who are interested, you can take an early morning walk to experience the awakening of nature and wildlife. Around noon (after lunch), you depart back to the city, arriving around 6 PM.
If you prefer to stay for four days, this extra day can be customized in consultation with the guide. There will be ample time for swimming, relaxing, and hiking in the surrounding area.
